EcoPlan is currently working through Decision Research to develop and test a new HIA method that combines qualitative and quantitative measures in the development of Indigenous Health Indicators. This approach will aid in culturally appropriate evaluation of the health and well-being of indigenous communities in the United States. The project involves working with indigenous communities in geographically distinct parts of the US to develop a generalized set of indicators that can be tailored to reflect each community’s cultural health understandings, beliefs and values. In addition, this project is using innovative community engagement methods to gather information on self-perceptions of health; including photo-elicitation by community members as an additional method to capture hard-to-quantify health values
