Last month, William Trousdale gave a talk at the Museum of Vancouver as part of their “Built City” Series. The talk explored the challenge of translating sacred stories, cultural stories, and everyday stories into frameworks that can be analyzed and understood across cultures. The talk explored the “endless” process of translation as we all try to understand each other and make better decisions. Focusing on his experiences working with Indigenous groups in North America, William looked at how translations from oral story-telling to written language to images to maps and ultimately to numbers (including dollars) –and how these translation processes can be improved.
